The Coalition for Community Pride and Progress (CCPP) developed by Dr. Mary Christian, Will Moffett, George Wallace, and Paige Washington, was created in 2008 to respond to the increasing issue of youth and gang violence in the Hampton community. In July of 2009, CCPP partnered with the Partnership on Youth Violence Prevention (The Partnership), managed by Sabrina Jones, with the purpose of developing a strategic plan for the Hampton community focused on reducing incidents of youth and gang related crimes.
The Partnership was initially created as a regional initiative in 2006, but in 2009 it changed its focus to the City of Hampton. This cooperation between the City of Hampton, Hampton City Schools, and the Hampton Police Department, with support from Juvenile Justice Court Services Unit is positioning Hampton to be able to respond to the needs of youth prior to involvement with the justice system. The collaboration between community stakeholders and the local unit of government created the following strategic plan:
